‘Duck Dynasty’ star Willie Robertson says he won’t be running for office

Oftentimes when a well-known public figure releases a new book right around a major election cycle, it means they’re interested in heading to Washington.

But while Willie Robertson, CEO of the Duck Dynasty family’s Duck Commander brand, has just published a new book on entrepreneurship, he revealed in a recent interview that a run for political office isn’t in the cards for him — at least, not right now.

Inspired to run for office?

While speaking with Fox News to promote the release of his book, American Entrepreneur, Robertson was asked if the election of businessman Donald Trump as president inspired him to run for office as well.

But Robertson shot that idea down with a joke and a smile.

“Me being in politics? Oh, I don’t know. I don’t think so,” Robertson replied. “I don’t know if I want to take the pay cut right now.”

The 46-year-old father added: “No, just joking. I like the idea of it, but not right now. I’ve got a grandkid coming.”

Patience and risk bring reward

The main crux of Robertson’s book on entrepreneurship is a reminder for aspiring business owners that success typically “doesn’t happen overnight,” but rather, success is achieved over time through hard work and dedication.

“I think one of the critical things…is to really be patient and content. It doesn’t happen overnight,” Robertson said. “You have to be willing to [take a] risk and hopefully you get the reward [by] being patient, steady.”

Robertson cited his own family business as a prime example, and noted that despite the appearance that his family found sudden success with their business in 2012 with their reality TV program, in actuality, the family business was founded in 1972.

The family grew up living paycheck to paycheck with “not much money” and steadily grew as a successful enterprise over 40 years prior to the TV program granting them a new level of success.

Another TV show?

Robertson also seemed to shoot down rumors of a Duck Dynasty reboot or spinoff program on TV, revealing instead that he was intensely focused on the growth of his family, seeing all of his children make it through high school and college and start business ventures of their own, as well as keeping the original family business running successfully.

“As far as a spinoff goes, everybody’s kind of doing their own thing right now,” Robertson said. “It was awesome that we were all together [filming the show], but I don’t know if I see us getting back together.”

Robertson may not be ready to reboot his show or start a political campaign, but he did seem to leave the door open for at least one of those things.

Could we see the Duck Dynasty star on the ballot one day? Only time will tell.
