In an incident that brings to mind other public attacks against Trump officials, Trump’s right hand man on immigration, acting deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Ken Cuccinelli was verbally assaulted at a DC bar, according to a report from the Washington Examiner.
The report gives us the details:
2016 presidential candidate Martin O’Malley yelled at acting deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Ken Cuccinelli when they ran into each other at a D.C. bar on Wednesday.
O’Malley, the former Democratic governor of Maryland, was at the Dubliner, a Capitol Hill Irish pub popular on Thanksgiving Eve, and was speaking to Villanova University’s Siobhan Arnold at the time Cuccinelli walked in. He promptly unloaded on the Trump official for the administration’s family separation policy at the southern border.
“O’Malley was shouting,” Arnold told the Washington Post. “I don’t think Cuccinelli was responding. I think he’s like, ‘Time to go. Just got here and I’m leaving.’ He pretty much retreated.”
Of course, liberal Twitter heartily approved of O’Malley’s act of public incivility.
It’s a scary thing when 50% of the American electorate feels empowered to treat the other 50% in a hostile and potentially threatening manner. Former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders and former Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen were also attacked in public in prior incidents.
The ability to get along with one’s political opponents used to be a mark of honor. Now, partisans on the left practically demand a hostile and aggressive confrontation of those who think differently.
As Americans gather around the family dinner table during this holiday season, what example are the Democrats setting here?
