House Democrats, egged on by their media allies, have launched secretive impeachment inquiry proceedings against President Donald Trump over an entirely contrived controversy related to a phone call Trump made in July to the president of Ukraine.
At the forefront of the impeachment push is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and chair of the House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff, both of whom have been incredibly dishonest with regard to the alleged offenses committed by Trump — to the point that the president has now threatened to file lawsuits against them, according to The Hill.
“Sue him anyway”
During a speech on Saturday to attendees at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, Trump spent some time addressing the Democrats’ impeachment efforts in the House, which he called a “witch hunt” based solely upon the purposefully mischaracterized content of a single phone call to the Ukrainian president.
Trump recounted that, even after he released a transcript of the actual call, Schiff went on to recite in a committee hearing a series of fabricated statements that he falsely attributed to the president — something Schiff later said was intended merely as a “parody.”
The president noted that he wanted to “go after” Schiff over his blatant dishonesty, but was told by his legal advisers that the California Democrat has immunity due to his status as a member of Congress.
“And I said, ‘He has to pay a big price.’ And they said, ‘Sir, he has total immunity because he was in the great chamber, talking to congressmen, talking to the American public, lying and cheating, and there’s supposed to be nothing we can do about it,'” Trump lamented.
“But he also went outside and, as usual, he talked to the press, and he said a lot of what he said to the press. So we’re going to take a look at it. We are going after these people. These are bad, bad people,” the president continued.
He went on: “I actually told my lawyers, I said, ‘Sue him anyway.’ He’s got immunity, but they can’t mean immunity for that. I said, ‘Sue him anyway. Even if we lose, the American public will understand.'”
Trump added that he should also “sue Nancy Pelosi, or maybe we should just impeach them. Because they’re lying, and what they are doing is a terrible thing for our country,” he added.
Trump standing firm
In reporting on President Trump’s remarks about suing and/or impeaching Schiff and Pelosi during that speech, The Hill reminded readers that, as provided by the U.S. Constitution, members of Congress cannot be impeached as a means to remove them from office.
Whether Trump actually sues Schiff and Pelosi remains to be seen, but the message has nevertheless clearly been sent that Trump has no intention of backing down from his Democratic opposition and will utilize whatever tools he can to go on offense and take the fight directly to them.
Trump’s resilience in the face of constant attack is just one of the reasons millions of Americans voted for him in the first place, and will do so again in 2020.
