There is a segment of the Democrat Party that has expressed their enmity for law enforcement in general, and particularly the men and women who enforce immigration laws with the U.S. Border Patrol and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
In the face of that opposition, President Donald Trump decided to honor the men and women of Border Patrol, ICE and the National Sheriff’s Association at a White House event on Monday.

Trump utilized the “Salute to our Heroes” event as a way to express his deep appreciation and gratitude for the dedication and sacrifice exhibited by the “brave patriots” who defend our borders and communities from the criminal element.
Heroes and patriots
“We are here today to salute the incredibly brave patriots who keep America safe,” Trump stated in a video posted to Twitter. “Everyone here understands a vital truth, that America is a land of opportunity because we are a nation of laws.”
“For America to be a strong nation we must have strong borders,” he continued. “You are the patriots, you are the heroes, you are the fighters and you are the warriors for justice. You are great people.”
“I’m honored every single day to serve as your commander-in-chief,” the president stated. “I will never leave your side, I will never leave the fight, I will never, ever let you down.”
“So on behalf of a grateful nation let me say, ‘thank you’ for your service. You are truly incredible people,” he concluded.
Service and adversity
President Trump highlighted some of the agencies’ recent accomplishments, from rescuing illegal immigrants being trafficked in an unsafe manner, arresting criminals attempting to cross the border illegally, busting drug smugglers and breaking up dangerous street gangs like MS-13.
All this, while some Democrats call for open borders and the abolition of ICE, decree certain jurisdictions to be “sanctuaries” from federal immigration laws and obstruct meaningful efforts at necessary and overdue immigration law reform.

President Trump has repeatedly made it clear that, just like every other country, America simply can’t exist as a nation without borders, laws and the appropriate enforcement that goes along with them. And despite pressure from Democrats and the media, Trump is standing firm on that message.
Trump also made it abundantly clear that he holds the men and women who enforce those borders and laws in the highest regard and will support their efforts wholeheartedly, a sentiment they no doubt appreciated.
