Sarah Sanders admits to ‘slip of the tongue’ after Mueller report accuses her of misleading the media

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

The final report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s two-year investigation was released on Thursday, and its principal conclusions were clear: there was no collusion with Russia, and no proof of obstruction on President Donald Trump’s part.

But while the report may have cleared the president of criminal wrongdoing, it contained a number of embarrassing tidbits of information about him and members of his administration — including White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, who on Thursday confirmed Mueller’s allegations that she admitted in interviews with investigators that she misled the media in a press conference following the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

Sanders’ misstep

The New York Post reported that according to Mueller’s findings, Sanders wasn’t honest when she said that “countless” FBI agents had privately signaled to her their opposition to Comey’s leadership.

“The president’s draft termination letter…stated that morale in the FBI was at an all-time low and Sanders told the press after Comey’s termination that the White House had heard from ‘countless’ FBI agents who had lost confidence in Comey,” read the Mueller report, which was lightly redacted before its Thursday release to the public. “But the evidence does not support those claims.”

Rather, the report suggested that based on testimony from others, including Comey and the president himself, the director was liked by many FBI agents and had been fired for other reasons, like not publicly exonerating Trump of the allegations against him and his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

An unfortunate “slip of the tongue”

Soon after Mueller’s report was released, the predominately liberal mainstream media — who have long taken issue with Sanders for being the mouthpiece of a president — seized on the more than 400-page document as further evidence to against Sanders’ credibility.

But Sanders hasn’t shied away to owning up to what really happened. She said in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday night that her allegedly false statements to the media were little more than a “slip of the tongue.”

“I acknowledge that I had a slip of the tongue when I used the word ‘countless,’” Sanders said, “but it’s not untrue, and certainly you just echoed exactly the sentiment and point I was making, is that a number of both current and former FBI agents agreed with the president.”

Sanders went on to argue that the president probably should have fired Comey even sooner than he did.

“James Comey was a disgraced leaker who tried to politicize and undermine the very agency he was supposed to run. Firing James Comey remains one of the best decisions that the president made,” she said. Take a look:

Sarah Sanders may have over-embellished the number of rank-and-file FBI agents who spoke out against Comey, but in the big scheme of things — and given the fact that there was opposition to Comey within the ranks of the bureau — this is all much ado about nothing.

It’s just par for the course for the Trump-hating liberal media.
