Resurfaced video contradicts Elizabeth Warren’s claim that she was fired for being ‘visibly pregnant’

As Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) threatens to take over former Vice President Joe Biden’s frontrunner status in the 2020 presidential primary race, her campaign rhetoric has come under increasing scrutiny. Now, a video has resurfaced that shows one of Warren’s often-used stories about herself — that a school principal fired her for being “visibly pregnant” — may not be true.

Fox News reports that a 2007 video tells a different story than what Warren has been saying on the campaign trail about her experience as a teacher of children with special needs.

Changing her tune

In the clip, which was posted to YouTube more than a decade ago, Warren says she worked in the school on an “emergency certificate,” and was taking courses toward full certification when she decided teaching wasn’t a good fit for her at the time.

“My first year post-graduation, I worked — it was in a public school system but I worked with the children with disabilities. I did that for a year, and then that summer I actually didn’t have the education courses, so I was on an ’emergency certificate,’ it was called,” she said.

“I went back to graduate school and took a couple of courses in education and said, ‘I don’t think this is going to work out for me,'” Warren added, according to Fox. “I was pregnant with my first baby, so I had a baby and stayed home for a couple of years, and I was really casting about, thinking, ‘What am I going to do?'”

But on the campaign trail, Warren’s remarks on the matter have come in stark contrast with these claims. According to Fox, “Warren told an audience at a town hall in Carson City, [Nevada, on] Wednesday that she had ‘loved’ working as a special needs teacher.”

“By the end of the first year, I was visibly pregnant, and the principal did what principals did in those days,” she said. “Wish me luck and hire someone else for the job.”

More Democrat hypocrisy

It’s no surprise to see blatant hypocrisy coming from the Democratic Party — but what’s most interesting about this story is why Warren has changed her tune. The senator’s campaign-trail version of the story lets her claim victim status, rather than being characterized as a college-educated, working mom who did what most other mothers were doing in the 1970s: stay home with the kids.

Democrats seem to think it’s a positive thing to be a victim. They’re working overtime to show that the United States is just not fair — and never has been fair — and that they are just as much victims of American injustice as anyone.

To be fair, Warren is not the first candidate to do so. Barack Obama played the race card like a fiddle, and we will never know how many white votes he got out of guilt over the injustice he must have suffered as a minority in our terribly unfair country. (Never mind that it seems he had benefactors every step of his journey that made it very easy for him to become a prominent citizen and then a presidential candidate.)

Why do Democrats want to be victims so badly?
