Corporate radio is pulling the plug on Michael Savage, lawyer says

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

Michael Savage, a popular voice in conservative talk radio, is reportedly going dark in multiple major cities next year — and his attorney is blaming “corporate censorship.”

The host of “The Savage Nation” was officially scheduled to change up his format in 2019, trimming his radio broadcast to one hour and doing the other hour as a podcast. But his attorney says that even the remaining one hour of radio broadcast is set to be dropped by New York’s WABC, along with multiple other major markets, on Jan. 7.

According to New York radio station WABC, Savage is adjusting his show’s format to “take advantage of emerging media” in the new year.

However, Savage’s attorney, citing emails he’s seen between Savage and WABC, told the Washington Times that WABC and others — including stations in Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. — plan to drop the show altogether on Jan. 7.

Victim of media censorship?

In a phone interview with The Times, Savage said, “The only reason I can see is because of politics. … It makes no sense. I have a loyal, large audience. Why not at least do reruns at night?”

Attorney Daniel Horowitz put it more bluntly: “Michael’s voice, unlike (his conservative competitors) has always been very independent. … Savage is completely a wild card, right? And that’s what they’re trying to kill. It’s all about corporate control. Taking him off the air is not a business decision.”

“Networks are actually losing millions of dollars in order to keep Michael’s voice off these stations,” Horowitz added, with the clear implication being that Savage’s voice was being purposefully silenced by corporate media censorship.

Popular host with high ratings

Savage’s program wouldn’t be cut over ratings — his show consistently rates near the top of the list of conservative talk radio shows in recent years, coming in second only to talk radio king Rush Limbaugh in 2017 and dominating the West Coast ratings-wise in 2016.

In 2016, Savage was even inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame for the category of Spoken Word On-Air Personality, which was driven by the votes of the listening public.

Move over?

A possible explanation for the change is that the handful of corporations that control most radio stations across the country are making more room for conservative star Ben Shapiro, who is making the jump from podcasts to a live nationwide radio show.

But if Savage is right, and the real reason is a corporate effort to silence his voice, then our society has taken another major step toward political censorship that won’t end well for anybody.
