Pelosi jokes about jailing Trump Cabinet officials

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

The left was outraged when Trump supporters chanted, “Lock her up,” in reference to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

But they had quite a hypocritical chuckle when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) joked about locking up members of Trump’s cabinet in the “little jail” beneath Capitol Hill for refusing to comply with the Democrats’ partisan demands.

Will Democrats arrest Trump admin?

During an interview with Robert Costa of The Washington Post, Pelosi discussed the Democrat demands for President Donald Trump’s tax returns. Costa asked how far Pelosi was willing to go to compel compliance with that demand.

“How far can you go on that front, Speaker Pelosi?” Costa asked. “Could you hold the secretary of Treasury, Steven Mnuchin, in contempt? Some Democrats have even raised the prospect of arresting the Treasury secretary if he does not comply with congressional demands.”

“A little jail down in the basement”

“Well, let me just say that we do have a little jail down in the basement of the Capitol,” Pelosi replied to laughter from the audience.

“But if we were arresting all of the people from the administration, we would have an overcrowded jail situation, and I’m not for that,” the speaker continued.

Pelosi added that the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee “has a path” to garner compliance, and suggested that among several different options, the most likely path was to fight it out in court. She said she’d leave that decision up to the chairman.

Request Denied

Ways and Means Committee chair Richard Neal (D-MA) has demanded the Treasury Department turn over six years’ worth of tax returns from President Donald Trump and related companies.

But in a one-page response letter dated Monday, Secretary Mnuchin informed the chairman that no documents would be turned over.

Citing concerns over “serious constitutional questions” and the future impact on other taxpayers, and after consulting with the Department of Justice, Mnuchin determined that “the Committee’s request lacks a legitimate legislative purpose.” As such, the Treasury Department “is not authorized to disclose” the confidential information, he wrote.

With their request denied, Democrats can do little more than fume. There’s no reason for Trump’s cabinet members to participate in the Democrats’ witch hunt against the president.

  1. Throughout this grand scheme of things you’ll receive an A just for effort and hard work. Where exactly you actually lost me personally was first in the details. As as the maxim goes, details make or break the argument.. And it couldn’t be more true right here. Having said that, let me tell you what did give good results. The authoring can be highly persuasive which is probably the reason why I am making the effort to opine. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Second, whilst I can notice the leaps in reason you make, I am not necessarily convinced of just how you appear to unite the ideas which inturn make your conclusion. For right now I will yield to your point but trust in the near future you actually connect your dots better.

  2. An outstanding share! I’ve just forwarded this onto a coworker who has been doing a little homework on this. And he actually bought me lunch due to the fact that I stumbled upon it for him… lol. So let me reword this…. Thanks for the meal!! But yeah, thanks for spending some time to discuss this subject here on your blog.

  3. I blog frequently and I genuinely thank you for your information. Your article has truly peaked my interest. I will book mark your site and keep checking for new information about once a week. I subscribed to your Feed too.

  4. I was curious if you ever considered changing the page layout of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two images. Maybe you could space it out better?
