There have been persistent rumors for months that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) had split from her husband and father of her children, Ahmed Hirsi, in order to pursue a romantic affair with a political consultant to her campaign named Tim Mynett, something both Omar and Mynett have denied on the rare occasions they’ve even been asked about it.
But now the U.K. Daily Mail has published photographs which strongly imply that Omar and Mynett — both of whom are still married but in the process of divorcing their respective spouses — are not only involved in a romantic relationship but are actually living together in a shared apartment in Washington, D.C. when the congresswoman is in town.
Capitol cohabitation
It would appear that a photographer has been staked out near Omar’s basement apartment just a few blocks away from Capitol Hill as multiple pictures were taken and subsequently published which show both Omar and Mynett coming and going separately from the same residence.
On numerous consecutive days over the course of at least a week, both Omar and Mynett were spotted entering and leaving the apartment on the same day, typically about 30-60 minutes apart from each other.
Mynett has been photographed bringing clothes, groceries, and even six-packs of beer with him to the apartment.
Other photos show Mynett driving Omar around the capital city in his rather distinctive late-model blue Ford Mustang. Photos also appear to show that Mynett has routinely parked his vehicle about two blocks away from the apartment, likely in the hopes that his presence at the residence would be less conspicuous.
Wedding bells?
An unnamed “well-placed source” told the Daily Mail of the duo, “Tim is still pretending there is nothing going on but neither of them are fooling anyone.”
“Omar is an elected representative, she is supposed to be transparent and truthful. She needs to be honest about why she’s leaving her marriage and breaking up another one,” the source continued. “Right now they are more or less living together whenever she is in DC. They say they travel as business associates when they are staying in the same hotel rooms. They are even planning a romantic vacation at Christmas.”
“The suspicion is that when their divorces are finalized they will quietly decide to make it official. Maybe then the lies, the hypocrisy, all the sneaking around will finally come to an end,” the anonymous source added.
FEC complaint
There were reports several months ago that Omar had separated from her husband, Hirsi, but the congresswoman steadfastly denied that rumor — only for it to be confirmed when she filed for divorce in early October. Similarly, Mynett has denied having an affair with Omar, a charge that was leveled against him when his wife, Dr. Beth Mynett, filed for divorce in August and claimed in those filings that he had indeed professed his love for Omar.
It now appears all but certain that Omar and Mynett are indeed having an romantic affair, given these secretly taken photographs, which come in conjunction with other photos and videos of the duo together in other places, such as New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Austin, Texas — though those sitings were often explained away by Omar’s defenders as just being part of the pair’s campaign work together.
If it is true that they are involved in romantic relationship, however, the fact would lend credence to an official complaint filed with the Federal Elections Committee which alleged that certain travel expenses paid to Mynett’s company, E Street Group LLC, by Omar’s campaign actually constituted “personal expenses” that were paid in violation of campaign finance laws. Whether anything significant comes of that complaint remains to be seen.
