Ilhan Omar claims BDS movement will lead to ‘peaceful’ two-state solution

Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar has repeatedly revealed her anti-Semitic antipathy toward the Jewish nation of Israel, perhaps no more so than with her open support for the economically-ruinous Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement that would financially cripple that country.

Omar doesn’t see it that way, of course, and rather remarkably stated her belief on Sunday that, rather than ruin Israel and leave its citizenry vulnerable to attack, the BDS movement would somehow bring about a “peaceful process” and lead to a two-state solution settling the age-old Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

Omar slams Netanyahu

The Washington Free Beacon reported that Omar’s commentary on Israel and the BDS movement came during an appearance Sunday on CBS’s Face the Nation program.

The congresswoman first expressed her thinly-disguised disdain for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — who is soon standing for election, and who recently barred her from entering the country — and referenced a report detailing his alleged plans to annex a portion of the Palestinian-controlled West Bank. These remarks came just before Omar’s suggestion that waging economic warfare against Israel would result in peace for the region.

Host Margaret Brennan raised the issue of Omar having been banned from Israel and asked if she would again attempt to visit or drop her support for the BDS movement if Netanyahu were to lose his re-election bid. “I certainly hope that the people of Israel make a different decision,” Omar said of Netanyahu with a smile, “and my hope is that they recognize that his existence, his policies, his rhetoric really is contradictory to the peace that we are all hoping for that that region receives and receives soon.”

BDS flip-flop

With regard to Netanyahu’s supposed plans to annex part of the West Bank territory, Omar said, “For many of us in Congress, there has been a longstanding support for a two-state solution, and this annexation now is going to make sure that peace process does not happen and we will not get to a two-state solution.”

“I think what is really important is for people to understand that you have to give people the opportunity to seek the kind of justice they want in a peaceful way, and I think the opportunity to boycott, divest, sanction is the kind of pressure that leads to that peaceful process,” she added.

The Free Beacon pointed out that it was only last year, when Omar was first running for Congress, that she had denounced the anti-Israel BDS movement as being “counteractive” and “not helpful” in reaching a peaceful two-state solution, only to then shift toward supporting the movement after winning her election and taking office.

Will she explain the inexplicable?

It is not at all clear how encouraging and supporting boycotts of Israeli goods, divesting from Israeli businesses and government, or imposing economic sanctions against the small nation would lead to peace or a two-state solution.

It would be nice if someone in the media would attempt to get Omar to explain her thinking on that.

That, of course, is highly unlikely to occur, and Omar would likely dodge the question even if asked, so we are simply left to wonder for ourselves. Meanwhile, the congresswoman has again displayed in stunning fashion her utter disregard for Israel and its tenuous position surrounded by those who would like nothing better than to see the nation economically devastated and rendered vulnerable to being wiped completely off the map.
