No police? No deliveries

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

Truck drivers worked all the way through the lockdowns, delivering goods to the “essential” businesses that allowed people to stay home. They suffered from lack of support services. For the last three weeks, they faced deliveries to cities full of protests and unrest. Now that those cities are either dismantling or talking about defunding their police departments, truckers are saying they won’t deliver in those cities.

Throughout the last three weeks since George Floyd’s death, massive numbers of people have filled the streets of many of America’s cities to protest and sometimes riot. These mostly Democrat cities have allowed the protests and riots to disturb and in many cases destroy business districts.

The idea of no police presence in these unruly cities creates a feeling of dread in the heart of law-abiding citizens as video after video reveals the violence committed in these cities. Even where there are police, people have been severely injured by violent rioters, and businesses have been burned, looted, and destroyed. Drivers have been pulled out of their cars and stomped. Truck drivers have also been attacked while trying to travel through those areas.

Now truck drivers are reconsidering their willingness to deliver to cities that have abolished or defunded the police. Many, almost 8 out of ten, aren’t willing to risk their loads, their trucks, or their lives to deliver in police-free zones.

79% of truckers say they will not deliver

According to CDLlife.com, truckers have been using an app to answer the question:

Would you pick up/deliver to cities with defunded or disbanded police departments? Why or why not?

The results, again from CDLLife.com are: As of June 13, 2020, we’ve had over 1,283 respondents and 79% say they will refuse loads to cities with disbanded or defunded police departments.

One respondent explained that for his own safety and the safety of his load, he would not deliver to cities that defund their police departments:

For my own safety and security of my customers’ loads, I have already informed my dispatcher that I will refuse all loads to cities that have defunded their police departments.

Another respondent brought up the harsh facts of delivering during the COVID-19 lockdowns compounded with the dangers of delivering to a city with a “disbanded” police department:

I will not deliver to an area with a disbanded police department. My life matter[s] and I do this for my family. We are already at the mercy of these towns and cities with laws and hate against us for parking, getting a meal or even using a restroom.

Once again, we can thank truckers bringing some perspective and reality to the discussion of defunding police departments.

The reality of no deliveries in police-free zones

The idea of dismantling police is nonsense. Cities cannot function without truckers bringing in thousands of tons of supplies every day. Cities like Los Angeles and Oakland need truckers to take goods from their ports, too. Most cities would rapidly collapse without those daily deliveries of essentials like food, fuel, medical supplies, and all the other items that keep them running.

Watch this mob drag a truck driver out of his truck and beat him. You can see that he was trying to be very careful not to run anyone over before they stopped him.
