Nancy Pelosi blasts reporter: ‘I’m getting very angry about the silliness of these questions’

After a series of tragic mass shootings shocked the nation while Congress was out of town for their August recess, Democrats across the country resumed their ubiquitous calls for officials in Washington to “do something” about gun violence in America, even demanding that Congress cut their recess short and get back to work.

But neither the House nor the Senate returned early to address the issue — and now, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is getting snappy with reporters who asked about the lack of action.

Nancy Pelosi is “getting angry”

The Washington Examiner reported that Pelosi was approached by a reporter near the Capitol Building on Wednesday. “Do you have any regrets about not bringing the House back in August to keep the flame lit on gun violence?” the reporter inquired.

“No, absolutely not. We did our job,” Pelosi replied. “The Senate was supposed to come back. Why don’t you all get that straight? The Senate did not come back to pass the bill.”

Growing irate and waving her hands about, the speaker went on: “I’m getting very angry about the silliness of these questions. Lives are at stake. Senator [Mitch] McConnell [R-KY] is standing in the way.”

Pelosi added that the House passed a bill in February that Senate Republicans refused to consider before again chiding the journalist.

“Don’t ask me what we haven’t done. We have done it,” she said. “And if you are annoyed with my impatience, it’s because people are dying because Senator McConnell hasn’t acted. Why don’t you go ask him if he has any regrets for all the people who died because he hasn’t acted?”

Take a look at the Examiner‘s clip of the encounter:

Democrat bills were DOA

In her rant, Pelosi referenced a package of gun control legislation that was passed by the Democrat-controlled House in February with little-to-no support from Republicans. However, McConnell has made it clear that those bills were essentially dead-on-arrival in the Republican-controlled Senate and would not be brought up for a vote, as they had zero chance of actually passing.

McConnell and a handful of other Republicans — including even President Donald Trump — have suggested that more limited and truly bipartisan legislative efforts to address the drivers of gun violence could get a hearing in the Senate, and asked Democrats to come back with something they could actually work on.

But Democrats have stubbornly insisted on eating the whole gun ban apple instead of just taking a bite. Their loss.
