Michelle Obama launches voter registration initiative

As we approach the first midterm elections of President Donald Trump’s tenure in office, the left is growing ever more anxious to stop his Make America Great Again agenda.

A key component of the left’s efforts to stop Trump is to regain control of one or both chambers of Congress, and former first lady Michelle Obama — along with some celebrity friends — are hoping to get enough leftist voters registered this fall to make that happen.

According to USA Today, the former first lady has teamed up with several Democrat-friendly celebrities to launch a voter registration effort ahead of the midterms known as “When We All Vote.”

Aside from simply registering new voters, the nonprofit organization intends to also conduct various events, rallies and volunteer training sessions designed to encourage involvement in the election and voting process.

The new organization claims to be “nonpartisan,” but that remains to be seen. It’s already connected with Rock the Vote, another supposedly “nonpartisan” initiative that leans decidedly to the left.

“Voting is the only way to ensure that our values and priorities are represented in the halls of power,” Obama said in a statement.

“And it’s not enough to just vote for president every four years,” she continued. “We all have to vote in every single election: for mayor, governor, school board, state legislature and Congress. The leaders we elect to these offices help determine just about every aspect of our lives and our democracy.”

A major reason behind this initiative is the fact that voter turnout for midterm elections tends to be far lower than in presidential election years.

“These numbers and the reasons behind them should alarm every American. No one organization can dramatically change those numbers alone,” said the organization in a statement.

“But every citizen can be part of the solution — and that’s why When We All Vote is calling on Americans to take responsibility and start a conversation by asking friends, family, and those in their own communities to register,” the organization added.

The former first lady will be joined in her effort by a number of left-leaning celebrities, including “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who tweeted last year that Trump “is going straight to hell.”

Singer Janelle Monae, who performed for protestors at the 2017 Women’s March, basketball player and Obama donor Chris Paul, and country singer Tim McGraw, who angered fans last year by speaking out in favor of gun control, are also involved, as well as President Barack Obama himself. The former president is expected to hit the campaign trail on behalf of favored liberal candidates this fall.

It is unclear if Michelle Obama will do any campaigning as well, but she is certainly immersing herself in the effort to stop Trump and his agenda by regaining control of Congress for the obstructionist Democrats, despite whatever “nonpartisan” pablum her new organization may spew for public consumption.
