Flashback: Rep. Maxine Waters’ ethical issues haven’t gone away

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

Democrat California Rep. Maxine Waters has somehow become a leader of the leftist resistance to President Donald Trump over the last two years, as she has incessantly demanded his impeachment and accused him of the worst sort of ethical violations.

But her being held up as a resistance leader against Trump is oddly hypocritical given Waters’ own sordid history of alleged unethical nepotism.

Recent regrets

According to a May report from the Washington Examiner, Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings showed that Waters’ campaign had paid the congresswoman’s daughter Karen nearly $50,000 in a series of payments between May 2017 and January 2018.

The filings further showed that Karen Waters stood to earn an additional $65,000 during the 2018 election cycle for her “professional services” in relation to managing what is known as a “slate mailer” on behalf of the campaign.

That slate mailer is a campaign flyer designed to look like a ballot which includes the names of candidates endorsed by Waters. Those candidates can get their name on the mailer sent to all of Waters’ constituents by paying the Waters’ campaign a hefty contribution.

But these questionable ethical arrangements are nothing new for Waters and her family, as The Washington Post reported back in 2004 that both Waters’ daughter and son had pocketed sizable amounts from her campaign at that time.

Factoring in Waters’ husband’s business dealings with banks that received federal money, members of her family had brought in more than $1 million over an eight year period in rather questionable fashion.

Continued corruption

All of that led to a surprisingly detailed report in May 2017 from the left-leaning Daily Beast that looked at how Waters had seemingly transformed from the “most corrupt” member of Congress to a beloved leader of the anti-Trump #Resistance.

Waters received the dubious honor of being named the “most corrupt” member of Congress by the left-leaning Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington in 2011 in light of her allegedly steering federal bailout money to a bank in which her husband held a stake, as well as her children and grandchildren holding paid positions within her campaign.

Strangely, even as she is beset with allegations of rampant corruption, ethics violations, and nepotism, Waters routinely attacks Trump and his family for the same sort of things she stands accused of.

Meanwhile, her corruption and ethical shortcomings have now been conveniently ignored or overlooked by the left in the Age of Trump, with the “most corrupt” member of Congress now known as the liberal-beloved “Auntie Maxine.”

It would be nice if the left would hold their own corrupt and unethical members accountable, but it appears that so long as those corrupt and unethical members make enough anti-Trump noise to satisfy the base, they can get away with whatever sort of dubious dealings they want.
