MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell issues retraction after Trump’s attorneys assert ‘the story is false’

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

The media’s false narrative of alleged Trump-Russia collusion is — for all intents and purposes — dead and buried. But some members of the liberal media seem to have failed to accept that reality.

On Tuesday, MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell opened his show with a bombshell report alleging that Russian oligarchs had co-signed on massive bank loans for President Donald Trump. But there was just one problem with O’Donnell’s story: it wasn’t true.

According to Breitbart, the MSNBC host later issued an apology and retracted the story, saying it contained “information that wasn’t ready for reporting.”

O’Donnell issues rare apology

“Last night, on this show, I discussed information that wasn’t ready for reporting,” O’Donnell said on Wednesday’s edition of MSNBC’s The Last Word. “I repeated statements a single source told me about the president’s finances and loan documents with Deutsche Bank. Saying ‘if true’ as I discussed the information was simply not good enough.”

The MSNBC host went on: “I did not go through the rigorous verification and standards process here at MSNBC before repeating what I heard from my source. Had it gone through that process, I would not have been permitted to report it.”

O’Donnell admitted that he “should not have said it on air or posted it on Twitter.”

“I was wrong to do so,” O’Donnell said. “This afternoon, attorneys for the president sent us a letter asserting the story is false. They also demanded a retraction. Tonight, we are retracting the story.”

But O’Donnell wasn’t ready to admit that he was wrong — just that he jumped the gun a bit.

“We don’t know whether the information is inaccurate,” O’Donnell said. “But, the fact is, we do know it wasn’t ready for broadcast, and for that, I apologize.”

Eric Trump: This has to stop

As a member of the media completely overcome with what has become affectionately known as “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” O’Donnell has no shame when it comes to his absurd and incessant attacks on President Trump. But while public shaming may have little impact on reining in his dishonest reporting, the threat of legal action may pack a more convincing punch.

“This was a reckless attempt to slander our family and smear a great company,” Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization, tweeted Wednesday evening. “Apologies are not enough when the true intent was solely to damage and cause harm. As a company, we will be taking legal action. This unethical behavior has to stop.”

President Trump himself weighed in on the matter with a series of tweets Thursday morning in which he slammed O’Donnell as “crazy,” noting that the MSNBC host had been forced to apologize before over false allegations and suggesting that O’Donnell’s “inaccurate reporting” is merely the latest example of “horrible, corrupt, and fraudulent Fake News” to plague him and his associates. And we can bet it won’t be the last.
