GOP lawmaker introduces resolution to oust Jerry Nadler as Judiciary chair

Among all of the hysterical talk among Democrats and the media about the ongoing efforts to impeach President Donald Trump, an often overlooked fact is that an actual and official impeachment inquiry or process has yet to be formally authorized by a full vote of the House of Representatives, as is required by the Constitution.

That particular oversight hasn’t stopped House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) from openly declaring that his committee was already engaged in the impeachment process. Now, however, a Republican colleague has introduced a resolution that would remove Nadler from the committee in light of the Democrat’s blatant violation of the laws governing the impeachment process, according to The Hill.

Gooden’s resolution

The office of Republican Texas Rep. Lance Gooden issued a release on Tuesday noting that the proposed resolution would not only remove Nadler from his role heading the Judiciary Committee, but it would also bring an end to the unauthorized “impeachment” hearings that have already been scheduled.

Gooden pointed out that the only way the Judiciary Committee could engage in actual impeachment proceedings is if the House authorized such action by a simple majority in a full vote of all members.

That hasn’t happened yet, and in fact, previous impeachment-related floor votes have all been decisively defeated by a firm bipartisan majority.

The release noted that “Despite this, Chairman Nadler has said publicly he is ‘impeaching the president — right now,’ and has clearly initiated the impeachment process, in direct violation of the law.”

Nadler’s complicity in coup

Gooden said in the statement: “In recent days Democrats have sanctimoniously declared their allegiance to the rule of law. I encourage them to follow those rules and hold Chairman Nadler accountable for breaking them.”

“By law, he may not launch impeachment proceedings until the full House votes for him to do so,” the congressman continued. “This attempted coup against a duly-elected, sitting president is unprecedented and must be stopped.”

Gooden went on: “I urge the Majority to move immediately to have him stripped of his chairmanship and that any accomplices on the Judiciary Committee not be considered as a replacement.”

That’s not how any of this works

It is true that the only way that Democrats can formally and officially launch the actual impeachment process is through a full vote on the House floor.

An impeachment inquiry can’t simply be launched by virtue of a unilateral statement from the Judiciary Committee chairman, nor by a declaration from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, no matter how much the media would like that to be the case or how often they mischaracterize what is actually happening.

It is a truly sad commentary on the current state of our nation’s political system that those who are supposedly laser-focused on holding a purportedly lawless president accountable can’t even follow their own rules in the process, and that a resolution of this sort is deemed necessary to rectify the gross hypocrisy.
