Doctors puzzled after Texas girl’s inoperable brain tumor ‘miraculously’ disappears

It’s a Christmas miracle for one Texas family.

Fox News reported that Roxli Doss, an 11-year-old Texas girl, was diagnosed in June with a rare form of cancer that led to an inoperable brain tumor, leaving her family praying for a miracle. And to the surprise of her doctors, the latest scans have found no trace of the tumor.

Doctors diagnosed Doss with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, or DIPG, in June.

Just six months later, the girl appears to be cancer free, and those same doctors really have no explanation for the turn of events.

Aggressive and inoperable brain tumor

“It is very rare, but when we see it, it is a devastating disease,” said Dr. Virginia Harrod of Dell Children’s Medical Center in an interview with KVUE.

“You have decreased ability to swallow, sometimes vision loss, decreased ability to talk, eventually difficulty with breathing,” the doctor added.

Doss underwent 11 weeks of radiation therapy, though the cancer is considered incurable.

Meanwhile, the parents rallied the community in support of their daughter, requesting and receiving assistance in the form of fundraising to help pay medical bills and prayers for a miracle with regard to the girl’s health and well-being.

Miraculous disappearance

“And we got it,” said the girl’s mother, Gena Doss, of the requested miracle. Her father, Scott Doss, agreed, “Praise God we did.”

Doctors have no explanation for why the tumor essentially vanished. Dr. Harrod said, “When I first saw Roxli’s MRI scan, it was actually unbelievable. The tumor is undetectable on the MRI scan, which is really unusual.”

But while the doctors puzzle over how an inoperable brain tumor apparently disappeared without a trace, the parents know exactly where credit goes for the miraculous development, and they are thanking God for his grace and mercy.

“Everyday we still say it. It’s kind of our family thing that God healed Roxli,” said Gena. Scott added, “We didn’t know how long she would be healthy and, look at her, she’s just doing awesome.”

Doctors have double-checked all of the scans to ensure the tumor really is gone, and will continue to monitor the girl’s health as she undergoes immunotherapy treatment as a precaution.
