A Democrat politician in Pennsylvania showed up at a hotel with condoms and $200 in cash, only to find police instead of a prostitute waiting for him.
That politician was 36-year-old Eric Bowers, the mayor of Bloomsburg, and a state police affidavit stated he had paid for sex with a police informant on multiple occasions.
According to the New York Post, Bower was arrested on April 20 at a Hampton Inn and now faces four misdemeanor charges related to prostitution.
Bower told local media outlet WNEP-TV that he had a “playful” relationship with the prostitute who turned out to be an informant for the state police and stated that he would fight the charges against him, which he believed stemmed from a politically motivated setup.
“I believe this was just a setup because of my political position,” said Bower, who nevertheless resigned his position as mayor, to which he had just been elected in November.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro noted in a news release that in addition to resigning his mayorship, Bower had also stepped down from his post as a state constable and waived his preliminary hearing on the charges against him.
“This mayor flouted the law and solicited sex from a prostitute on multiple occasions,” stated Shapiro.
Bower’s attorney, Patrick O’Connell stated that despite being innocent of the charges against him, his client had decided to resign for the good of the town of Bloomsburg, a small town of about 14,000 located roughly 130 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
“The town of Bloomsburg needs to focus on the tasks that it needs to focus on, running an efficient local government, which is challenging enough,” stated O’Connell.
“But these charges caused a circus environment. Eric Bower recognized that and for the better of the town, decided to resign,” the lawyer added.

O’Connell did not provide details on how his client would fight the charges against him, and Bower declined to comment for the Post’s article.
This Democrat mayor thought he was above the law and could do whatever he wanted, but he was caught trying to engage in an illegal sexual act and will now have to suffer the consequences.
