Ann Coulter slams Trump’s rollout of new immigration proposal

During the 2016 election cycle, firebrand conservative author and pundit Ann Coulter was an outspoken supporter of then-candidate Donald Trump for his firm stance against illegal immigration.

Coulter’s support for President Trump has faded since he took office, however, due to slow progress on the border wall, and she hasn’t been shy about voicing her disappointment. Coulter again viciously criticized Trump on Twitter Thursday as the president laid out a new immigration proposal.

Trump unveils immigration reform plan

Trump delivered a speech in the White House Rose Garden to introduce his new proposal for overhauling immigration policy — a plan that didn’t go nearly far enough, in Coulter’s opinion.

The new reforms are focused largely on adjusting the legal immigration process so that it places more emphasis on migrants with job skills, English proficiency, and self-sustainability rather than those with mere familial connections in the U.S.

Trump’s proposal also calls for improving border security with new technologies and infrastructure investment, and though continued construction of his oft-promised border wall earned a mention, it didn’t receive nearly as much attention from the president as Coulter would have liked.

Coulter hits Trump on Twitter

Coulter — who has ignored the fact that every wall-related move by the president has been blocked, obstructed, or slowed by Democrats, the courts, and even some establishment Republicans — has essentially accused Trump of lying to his supporters about his intentions to secure the southern border with physical barriers including walls.

As Trump delivered his speech on Thursday, Coulter live-tweeted her harshly critical reactions with a dozen or more posts that ripped into the president over what she considers to be his most egregious failures.

Mind you, Coulter is of the opinion that there should be a complete and total shutdown of all immigration — legal or otherwise — for at least the time being.

Coulter’s consternation

At one point in her social media rant, Coulter even asserted that the president had not once uttered the word “wall,” but as The Daily Wire pointed out, that simply wasn’t true.

“Importantly, we’re already building the wall, and we should have close to 400 miles built by the end of next year, and probably even more than that,” Trump said in his speech. “It’s going up very rapidly. And I want to thank the Army Corps of Engineers. They’re doing a fantastic job on the wall. And that’s a wall that is desperately needed.”

Ann Coulter may not like the speed with which Trump has been moving to get the border wall constructed, but that doesn’t mean he has abandoned his promise. In the end, her griping only serves to make her look like a petty, back-stabbing, fairweather friend.
