Clinton says Julian Assange ‘has to answer for what he has done’

Asked to comment on the arrest of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, Hillary Clinton said Thursday that Assange “has to answer for what he has done,” before taking a low shot at her rival, President Donald Trump.

“I do think it’s a little ironic that [Assange is] the only foreigner this administration would welcome to the United States,” she added, to uproarious applause from her fans.

Clinton on Assange arrest

Assange was arrested by British authorities on Thursday after his 7-years-long political asylum at the Ecuadorian embassy in London was revoked.

Bill and Hillary Clinton kicked off their nation-wide speaking tour at the Beacon Theater in New York City on Thursday. Host and former Clinton aide Paul Begala asked Hillary Clinton for her thoughts on Assange’s arrest and probable extradition to the United States.

Clinton said Assange’s arrest and indictment was “not about punishing journalism,” but rather “is about assisting the hacking of military computers to steal information from the United States government.”

“The bottom line is, he has to answer for what he has done, at least as it has been charged,” Clinton said.

Watch below:

Assange and WikiLeaks are but two of the many individuals and entities Clinton has blamed for her surprising electoral loss in 2016. At key moments during the campaign, WikiLeaks published batches of emails obtained from the Democratic National Committee and Clinton campaign chair John Podesta.

Assange was indicted by the U.S. government for his role in an alleged conspiracy with then-Army Pvt. Bradley Manning — now-Chelsea Manning — to illegally access and then publish classified and sensitive Defense Department documents, a crime for which Manning was convicted, only to later see her sentence commuted by former President Barack Obama.

Clinton vindictiveness

Hillary Clinton may have drawn laughs with her ridiculous shot at President Trump, but it was false as it was humorless.

The president has made it clear that he is more than happy to welcome hundreds of thousands of foreigners and immigrants to America every year … provided they enter the country in a legal and organized fashion.

Clinton is still seething over her shocking loss to Trump in 2016, and no attempt at humor can disguise the resentment she clearly still harbors.
