Top 2020 presidential contender and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has made a name for himself as a grumpy old socialist who rails against income inequality like a true Marxist warrior for the working-class.
There’s just one problem: Sanders’ tax returns for the past 10 years show that he himself is a “millionaire” who is firmly entrenched within the wealthy “1%” that he and his socialist supporters claim to despise.

Individuals with more than $480,930 in annual gross income are categorized as being part of the wealthiest “1%” of Americans — of which Sanders is apparently a member.
Why not more?
Sanders was asked by the Fox News hosts why he hadn’t lived up to his own rhetoric and voluntarily paid more in taxes — such as at the 52% rate “wealth tax” he has suggested be imposed upon the rich — rather than the lowest rate he could.
But Sanders scoffed at the suggestion and attempted to flip it back on the hosts, pointing out that MacCallum likely made more than him and asked her why she didn’t voluntarily pay more.
“I didn’t suggest the wealth tax,” MacCallum replied.
Baier chimed in: “And she’s not running for president.”
Socialist hero turned wealthy hypocrite
Sanders attempted to defend his wealth as the just reward for writing a bestseller, saying: “I wrote a pretty good book. It was a bestseller, sold all over the world, and we made money. If anyone thinks I should apologize for writing a best-selling book, I’m sorry, I’m not going to do it.”
Baier rightly asked if the wealth accumulated from the sales of the book would be the “definition of capitalism and the American Dream,” but after an awkward pause, Sanders eventually said “no” and proceeded to dodge the question by talking about opportunity and college degrees.
At another moment in the event, while speaking about his proposed “Medicare for All” government-run health care scheme, Sanders admitted that everyone would be required to “pay more in taxes” for the plan to succeed.
For years, Bernie Sanders has decried capitalism and wealth, but he has made full use of the capitalist system to become extraordinarily wealthy himself through book sales, and meanwhile has paid as little in taxes as possible. He’s an utter hypocrite.
