Actors Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner finalize divorce after three years of separation

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

The rise and fall of Hollywood couples have long been a staple of American tabloids, and the romance of star actors Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner was no exception.

Though the couple reportedly separated in 2015, it was just reported that their divorce paperwork has finally been finalized and submitted to the Los Angeles County Superior Court to be made official.

TMZ was the first to report on the finalization of the divorce, which involved a privately-hired judge and an attorney acting as a mediator in what appears to be an amicable split between the married duo.

The couple did not have a prenuptial agreement but were said to have agreed to split their jointly owned property. They will also share custody of their three children and will have monthly meetings with a co-parenting therapist for at least the next six months.

Divorce finalized

The Huffington Post reported that Affleck and Garner began dating after meeting on the set of Daredevil in 2003, and were married a couple of years later.

Some 10 years after that — amid rumors that Affleck had been unfaithful in the marriage — they announced they were separating in 2015, though they hesitated to push forward with an official divorce until now.

Indeed, the divorce was just about to be dismissed by the courts in August when Garner finally took action to reach a settlement with Affleck, though the finalization of the paperwork was delayed a few more months until after Affleck had completed a stint in rehab for alcohol addiction.

Tabloid scrutiny

In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Garner said the intense tabloid scrutiny surrounding her marriage from the beginning made things difficult.

“Looking back on that, I really feel the stress of it. I really — I could cry talking about it,” Garner said.

She went on: “What I think I’ve learned is that the scrutiny in your private life puts a pressure to make something happen. You feel a pressure to hurry up and get married, ’cause you think that’ll end the — ‘Are they engaged? Are they not?’”

“And that’s true in the reverse, as well. If you are — if you know, if there is any inkling of trouble, or if the tabloids decide there’s trouble, it can create trouble,” Garner added.

Divorce is rarely a good thing, especially when children are involved, but by all accounts, this appears to be as amicable a split as could be possible for two people who have been together for 15 years.

Hopefully, the now-divorced Affleck and Garner remain amicable and supportive toward one another, as they will always be a “family” with children who need to be loved and cared for, despite whatever legal status the court has declared.
