Maxine Waters slams judge for allowing man accused of creating Democrat ‘hit list’ to be released on bail

California Rep. Maxine Waters (D) and several of her colleagues in Washington and the media were recently on the receiving end of what some have called a domestic terrorism attempt by a Coast Guard officer who allegedly created a hit list of prominent Democrats.

Now, Waters is expressing her outrage that a judge allowed the suspect to be released on bond.

Suspected terrorist out on bail

The suspect, Christopher Hasson, who proclaims himself to be a white supremacist, was first arrested on various charges after he was discovered to have compiled a small arsenal of weapons and ammunition, according to The Hill.

Hasson pleaded not guilty to the drug and gun charges he faced, and his public defender appears to have successfully argued that since Hasson wasn’t actually charged with any terrorism-related crimes, the federal government had no right to continue detaining him.

Waters, however, has said that Hasson is truly a “menace” who is too dangerous to be released from custody.

In a statement, Waters said: “There is no credible justification that can explain why a federal judge would allow someone as clearly dangerous and unrepentant as Hasson to walk free while he awaits trial.”

Waters went on to blame the Trump administration for not doing more to keep members of Congress like herself safe from the threats they face from members of the public — threats that politicians on all sides of the aisle routinely receive.

Indeed, Waters herself has even urged her supporters to harass the president and his associates whenever they are spotted in public. And that dangerous rhetoric isn’t making anyone safer.

All Trump’s fault, of course

But the congresswoman doesn’t seem concerned with her own hateful rhetoric. Instead, she’s returned to her favorite pastime: blasting President Trump.

“Members of Congress must now recognize that many of us who have taken hardline positions against the Trump administration are walking targets and we must use every resource at our disposal to protect ourselves since we cannot expect any assistance from the current Administration,” Waters said.

She went on: “Those of us in Congress and among the president’s ‘enemies of the people’ cannot be assured that Hasson would be kept at bay with the minimal level of oversight the federal judge would prescribe.”

There will be another hearing in the near future to work out the details of a supervised release on bail for Hasson pending trial. The judge indicated that he would likely impose rather strict guidelines on Hasson.

To be sure, nobody supports those who make threats against elected members of Congress — or anyone else, for that matter. That said, if Waters continues to not-so-subtly encourage her supporters to act threateningly toward the commander-in-chief, she really doesn’t have any room to talk.
