Trump: If Mueller report is ‘honest,’ it will expose ‘one of the greatest hoaxes ever perpetrated on this country’

Reports have alleged that Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia is wrapping up, leaving pundits to speculate what the contents of the special counsel’s final report could reveal. But according to President Donald Trump, it won’t be as impressive as some have suggested.

While speaking with reporters in the Oval Office on Friday, Trump asserted that if the report is “honest,” it will reveal that the collusion narrative that has been perpetuated by the mainstream media over the last several years was “one of the greatest hoaxes ever perpetrated on this country.”

Mueller’s final report

Trump’s remarks about the Mueller report came during a question-and-answer period with reporters in the Oval Office on Friday.

The president had just finished welcoming Chinese Vice Premier Liu He to the White House as part of ongoing negotiations over improved U.S.-Chinese trade relations in a meeting that also included several top cabinet officials.

Following the discussion and status updates on the trade negotiations, Trump opened up the floor for reporters to ask questions, and it didn’t take long before one reporter asked if the president had spoken with new Attorney General William Barr about the impending Mueller report.

Revealing the hoax

The president noted that he had not yet spoken with Barr about the Mueller report, saying, “At some point, I guess I’ll be talking about it. But you know the nice part? There was no collusion. There was no obstruction. There was no anything.

“I won a race,” Trump added. “You know why I won the race? Because I was a better candidate than she was,” said Trump, taking a shot at his 2016 opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“And it had nothing to do with Russia, and everybody knows it’s a hoax. It’s one of the greatest hoaxes ever perpetrated on this country,” Trump said. “So I look forward to seeing the report. If it’s an honest report, it will say that. If it’s not an honest report, it won’t.”

A witch hunt

The Washington Examiner reported that the Mueller investigation has gone on for nearly two years now, and though there had recently been speculation that the investigation is nearing a conclusion, senior Justice Department officials have insisted that the special counsel’s final report isn’t quite as imminent as some in the media have been reporting.

Democrats and opponents of the president have hung their hopes on Mueller’s investigation as their best chance at getting rid of President Trump.

Meanwhile, the president has consistently criticized the investigation as nothing more than a targeted “witch hunt” designed to hamstring and undermine his administration.

It remains to be seen what we will see in Mueller’s final report, but if the president is to be believed, Mueller’s team drafts an “honest” report of their conclusions, then the entire Russia-collusion debacle will finally be exposed as the “hoax” it has always been.
