Texas is opening up again; Crenshaw and Abbot show what leadership looks like

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

President Trump delivered guidelines to “Opening up America Again” to all the governors last week, leaving the implementation of those guidelines to the governors and officials of each state.

Now the State of Texas, led by Governor Greg Abbot and allies like rising conservative star Dan Crenshaw, is taking leadership of the reopening. The media of course, is salivating at the chance to pounce, if the reopening doesn’t go well.

Texas leads the way

Texas is poised to lead through a combination of temperament and opportunity. Texans have started to protest the lockdown, and Gov. Abbot is ready to open Texas up, albeit, cautiously.

Retail stores will open by the end of the week with curbside or to-go pickups. The governor has ordered that state parks be re-opened this week. Visitors would still have to wear face masks and maintain social distancing while visiting.

Elective surgeries will resume after April 22nd.  Schools will remain closed for the rest of the school year. Strict measures protecting the elderly in homes will continue.

We can pray that Texas can reopen without an increase in infections in that state.

Representative Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) explains how Texas will open up. Watch:

Individual precautions

Trump’s guidelines include common-sense precautions for individuals to observe.

Wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer, especially after touching frequently
used items or surfaces.
 Avoid touching your face.
 Sneeze or cough into a tissue, or the inside of your elbow.
 Disinfect frequently used items and surfaces as much as possible.
 Strongly consider using face coverings while in public, and particularly when using mass transit

Do not go out in public if you are sick.

The phased approach recommended to the states requires a strong downward trend in the number of infections.

Three phases

The president recommended a three-phase approach for “getting back to normal,” in the guidelines.

The recommendations for phase one include shelter-in-place for the most vulnerable individuals. Strict social-distancing would continue in public and gatherings of no more than 10 people. Restaurants, movie theaters, sporting venues, places of worship and gyms can reopen if they observe strict social distancing. Phase one can begin in states that have a low number of coronavirus cases or that show a strong downward trend for two weeks.

In phase two, gatherings of less than 50 people are recommended, again with social-distancing. Special precautions would have to be taken for larger gatherings. People could resume non-essential travel.

Phase three would be a return to normal life only if there is no rebound of infections.

President Trump encouraged governors to use the guidelines at their discretion. He also pointed out that states experiencing low infection rates could begin to implement phase one immediately.
