Anti-Trump Red Hen owner steps down from leadership in Lexington business group

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

The intolerance of liberals toward President Donald Trump and those who are associated with him was on full display over the weekend, especially in Lexington, Virginia, where the owner of the Red Hen restaurant refused to serve White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders because of her role in the administration.

That owner has received quite a bit of criticism in response to her discriminatory actions, which appears to have compelled her to step down from her role as the executive director of a local business group.

WBDJ reported on Tuesday that Red Hen Lexington restaurant co-owner Stephanie Wilkinson had offered her resignation as the executive director of Main Street Lexington, a volunteer organization which works to enhance and promote the Downtown Lexington area.

Wilkinson’s resignation was received and accepted by Elizabeth Outland Branner, Board President for Main Street Lexington.

“Considering the events of the past weekend, Stephanie felt it best, that for the continued success of Main Street Lexington, she should step aside,” stated Branner of the resignation.

Meanwhile, WSLS reported that the Republican Party of Virginia began to circulate a petition this week which called for a boycott against the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington in response to the blatant discrimination against a Trump administration official.

“The liberal owner of the ‘Red Hen’ restaurant in Lexington threw out Sarah Huckabee in the middle of dinner just because she works for President Trump! Once again the intolerant left has shown its true colors,” declared the petition.

The online petition had already garnered about 1,250 signatures since it was first introduced on Monday.

According to The Roanoke Times, the restaurant has been closed since the incident on Friday and is not expected to re-open until after the Independence Day holiday.

Despite the closure, protesters have lined the streets outside the Red Hen to display their disapproval of how Wilkinson handled having the White House press secretary as a guest in her establishment.

Reactions among other local business owners have been varied but generally muted as none really want to draw the ire of fired-up supporters on either side of the political aisle.

And that gets to the bottom line … people don’t want their dinner in a small town restaurant — or any other small town business, for that matter — politicized, as we already get enough partisan politics in nearly every other aspect of our lives.
