Following a Saturday shooting spree by a gunman in the Midland-Odessa area of West Texas that left several dead and more wounded and just weeks after the mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, former Texas congressman and 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke has made strict gun control the top issue for his floundering presidential campaign.

O’Rourke has called for unconstitutional and confiscatory gun control measures that would punish and infringe upon the rights of law-abiding Americans, a position upon which he has unapologetically and often profanely planted his flag, even dropping the explicit “F-bomb” on live TV in doing so.

O’Rourke drops “F-bomb”

The Daily Caller reported that O’Rourke was questioned during an appearance Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union about his use of the “F” word when talking about gun violence during a speech to supporters on Saturday, a clip of which was played with the profane phrase “f****d up”  bleeped out.

“The rhetoric that we’ve used, the thoughts and prayers that you just referred to, it has done nothing to stop the epidemic of gun violence, to protect our kids, our families, our fellow Americans in public places,” O’Rourke said to guest host Dana Bash. “At a Walmart in El Paso where 22 were killed. In Sutherland Springs, in a church. One or two a day all over this country, 100 killed daily in the United States of America.”

Explicitly doubling down

“We’re averaging about 300 mass shootings a year, no other country comes close. So yes, this is f****d up,” the Democrat candidate, who decries the president’s coarse language, said on live TV.

“If we don’t call it out for what it is, if we’re not able to speak clearly, if we’re not able to act decisively, we’ll continue to have this kind of bloodshed in America. And I cannot accept that,” O’Rourke added.

He went on: “We’re going to speak as defiantly and as strongly as we can but we’re also going to take action. Universal background checks, red flag laws, end of the sales of weapons of war and buying those AK-47s and AR-15s back so they cannot be used against our fellow Americans.”

Unworkable, unconstitutional proposals

There are just a few problems with O’Rourke’s proposed solutions, apart from his explicit manner of introducing them. First, universal background checks, which would outlaw the private sale and transfer of firearms between consenting individuals and create the framework for a national gun registry.

Second, red flag laws, which, unless very carefully constructed, would strip American citizens of their due process rights and pre-emptively punish certain people for crimes that haven’t actually been committed yet.

Then, of course, there is the absurd notion of banning “weapons of war” — every kind of firearm has been a “weapon of war” at one point — or his ludicrous plan to “buy back” popular semi-automatic rifles like AR-15s and AK-47s, which, in essence, would amount to the confiscation of legally-purchased and lawfully owned private property. How does one “buy back” something that was never theirs to begin with?

The truth of the matter is, O’Rourke’s presidential campaign has been floundering for some time and he has convinced himself that making gun control a top priority — in a rather explicit manner, mind you — is his best avenue to gain traction. Unfortunately for him, the only truly “F’d up” thing in all of this is his unconstitutional proposals to punish the law-abiding many for the actions of the criminal few.
