Nunes: The FISA court needs to go

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

Way back in 2018 when the Republicans still controlled the House of Representatives, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Devin Nunes, and the other Republicans on that committee were doing the work of the people of this country. They investigated the FBI’s tactics in the matter of Carter Page, which the FBI called Crossfire Hurricane, and which the American people came to know as the Russia Collusion affair or the Trump Russia affair.

The House Intelligence Committee released a report of its findings in February 2018 known as the Nunes Memo. That memo laid out all the misconduct on the part of the FBI.  The Democrats on the same committee responded with the Schiff memo in an attempt to discredit the Nunes Memo.

Last week, the Inspector General (IG) of the Department of Justice released its report on its investigation into the FBI’s investigation of Carter Page and their conduct toward the FISA court.

The report revealed that the FBI did abuse the FISA process multiple times by omitting evidence and making mistakes. Inspector General Michael Horowitz affirmed the report in a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Unfortunately for the FBI and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, the IG report also validated the Nunes memo.

After almost two years of abuse from the intelligence community, the Democrats, and the press, Devin Nunes and the Republicans have been vindicated by the release of the IG report. They were the ones that really knew what was going on with the whole Russia Collusion hoax, and they tried to stop it.

FISC letter to the FBI

In light of the revelations of the IG report, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC)  released a letter on December 17th to the FBI, rebuking them for abusing their trust and deceiving the court.

The letter calls what the FBI did “misconduct” and misleading, which contradicts former FBI director James Comey in a recent interview with Chris Wallace. He called the FBI’s conduct “sloppiness.” So, FISC has demanded that the FBI submit reforms by January 10th. Sounds good right?

FISC was warned about abuse of the FISA process twice by the House Intelligence Committee in 2018 and did nothing about it.

FISC fails to act

The problem is that the House Intelligence Committee had warned FISC  twice way back in 2018 that these FBI abuses were going on and the court did nothing about them. That makes them part of the problem. They ignored clear evidence of misconduct by the FBI.

FISC needs to be replaced

In the interview below, Nunes does not pat the FISC on the back for going after the FBI. He, instead, chastised the FISC, too. “The way that the court conducted itself is totally inappropriate.” He recommended that the FISC be ended and replaced with something that is more accountable. It is time to clean house!
