Most of the broadcast and cable news channels have adopted a negative stance in their coverage of President Donald Trump, but one network has pushed that anti-Trump position over the top.
That would be “fake news” CNN, and the network’s constant focus on porn stars and Russia to the exclusion of any good news from Trump’s administration may be costing them significantly among viewers.
Ratings Implosion
Breitbart reported that the partial ratings numbers for the month of May as compared to the full numbers from May 2017 show that viewership for CNN is trending down by 20-30 percent.
In May 2017, CNN averaged about 1.12 million prime time viewers, with about 399,000 of those being among the key advertising demographic of adults aged 25-54.
For the first week of May this year, CNN is averaging only about 859,000 prime time viewers, about 286,000 among the key demo, a drop off in viewership of roughly 23 and 29 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, Fox News saw a 5 percent increase in total prime time viewers (2.359 million) and a 1 percent drop among the key demo over last year, and MSNBC similarly experienced a 4 percent increase in total prime time viewers (1.755 million) with a 16 percent drop among the key demo.
Those numbers reveal that CNN has only about half the viewers of MSNBC and about a third that of Fox News.
More Bad News
Daytime viewer numbers for CNN have been just as dismal as well, as they fell from an average of 821,000 to 649,000 total daytime viewers over last year, and dropped from 274,000 to just 205,000 among the key demo.
To compare, Fox dropped a mere 1 percent in total daytime viewers over last year and 10 percent among the key demo, while MSNBC saw a 4 percent increase among total daytime viewers with a 4 percent drop in the key demo.
Obviously, the steep drop-off in viewers for CNN doesn’t mean that people are tuning out of the news entirely, as both Fox and MSNBC would have seen similar declines in viewership.

What it means is that viewers have increasingly come to realize that CNN is, more often than not, providing “fake news” focused on issues people don’t really care about, like porn stars, Russia investigations and a host of non-scandals.
Perhaps if they would just report the news of the day — both good and bad — with as little overt bias as possible, they might not be hemorrhaging viewers so severely.
