Hillary Clinton slams the president in Houston speech: ‘Trump is running scared’

Twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton still isn’t over the devastating loss she suffered in 2016 to Donald Trump. No matter how many books she sells, walks in the woods she takes, or stump speeches she gives, Clinton remains bitter and vindictive over her crushing and unexpected defeat.

Members of the Harris County Democratic Party gathered Friday in Houston, Texas to hear from a fired up Mrs. Clinton who still seems to be struggling with political powerlessness. The former first lady didn’t waste time launching into yet another anti-Trump monologue, this time accusing the president of endorsing “sexist trash” and “running scared” from House Democrats.

Temper, temper

“Just look at what’s happened in the last 24 hours,” Clinton said. “The president and his cronies have been running around spreading a doctored video of Nancy Pelosi. Now, it is sexist trash, but it is also a sign that Trump is running scared.”

“We have to remind the Americans that we are the party that can deliver for them,” Clinton said.

Of course, the former secretary of State failed to deliver for anyone in 2008, when she lost in the Democratic primaries, and again in 2016, when Trump campaigned circles around his politically advantaged opponent.

“But we also are the party that will stand up and protect the Constitution and address what is a very real constitutional crisis that this president has put us in,” Clinton said, referencing the latest Democratic Party buzzword. The term was first uttered by Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) when Attorney General William Barr refused to testify before his committee and provide a fully unredacted version of the special counsel’s Russia report.

Nadler accused Barr of “stonewalling” Democratic efforts to extend the Russia collusion probe, even though Special Counsel Robert Mueller already exonerated Trump following a two year, $35 million investigation. To Clinton’s obvious chagrin, Democrats are keeping their “subpoena cannon” locked and loaded with 85 separate investigations aimed at stalling Trump and keeping his lawyers on the defense until the 2020 elections.

Get over it

For his part, President Trump attributes Democrats’ inability to move on from the Russia investigation to their failure to recover from Clinton’s 2016 upset. He called them the “Do Nothing Party” in a Thursday evening tweet.

Despite insisting that she has no ambitions for a third White House bid, some political pundits are holding out for the former first lady to jump right into the back seat of a Democratic clown car filled with more than 20 prospective presidential hopefuls. As recently as March, however, Clinton confirmed that she would not be running a third campaign.

“Aw, shucks,” President Trump tweeted after hearing the news, “does that mean I won’t get to run against her again? She will be sorely missed!”

People close to Clinton say she is still holding out hope for another crack at the Oval Office. According to the New York Times, “someone close to Clinton” said she didn’t mean for her comments to “close the door on running.”

“She has told her team she is waiting at least to see the Mueller report,” the same source elaborated.

But only time will tell if we’ll get to see another Trump-Clinton matchup.
