Tucker Carlson loses advertiser after noting economic downside of mass immigration

Fox News host Tucker Carlson began his Thursday program with a bold, politically incorrect segment on illegal immigration which, as he himself predicted, immediately stirred up controversy.

While speaking about the actual impact of mass immigration on various communities, Carlson decried the left’s insistence that America “admit the world’s poor,” “even if it makes our own country poorer, and dirtier, and more divided.” Liberal social media pounced immediately and at least one major corporate sponsor has already pulled ads from Carlson’s show in response.

“Poorer and dirtier”

“People debate all the time about mass immigration,” Carlson began. “What you never hear anybody do is make the economic case for mass immigration.” He proceeded to state that while America needs more skilled workers in an increasingly more technology-driven economy, that isn’t what the country is getting.

“Instead we are getting waves of people with high school educations or less. Nice people, no one doubts that, but as an economic matter, this is insane,” he continued. “It’s indefensible, so no one even tries to defend it. Instead, our leaders demand that you shut up and accept this.”

“‘We have a moral obligation to admit the world’s poor,’ they tell us, even if it makes our own country poorer, and dirtier and more divided,” said Carlson. “Immigration is a form of atonement. Previous leaders of our country committed sins, and we must pay for those sins by welcoming in endless waves of migrant caravans.”

“And yet somehow the ‘immigration as atonement’ idea has become the official position of virtually every guilty liberal in the United States. Our tech overlords, the ones always lecturing you, corporate America, Nancy Pelosi and Paul Ryan,” he added. “They all believe this, and anyone who disagrees with is denounced as a bigot and fired.”

Carlson went on to describe how the citizens in Tijuana, Mexico, aren’t exactly happy about hosting the uninvited migrant caravan, which has strained city resources over the last several weeks.

Corporate America proves his point

As noted, Carlson’s “guilty liberals” wasted no time in denouncing the host for his politically incorrect assessment of the actual impact of mass immigration.

A social media pressure campaign succeeded in knocking off one of Carlson’s sponsors because of the controversial “poorer, and dirtier and more divided” statement.

Financial services firm Pacific Life announced via Twitter that it would be pulling its ads from Carlson’s program for the next few weeks. The statement read, in part, “As a company, we strongly disagree with Mr. Carlson’s statement. Our customer base and our workforce reflect the diversity of our great nation, something we take great pride in.”

That act of virtue-signaling appeared to have been largely dismissed by Fox News, though.

Network spokeswoman Carly Shanahan issued a statement in response: “It is a shame that left wing advocacy groups, under the guise of being supposed ‘media watchdogs,’ weaponize social media against companies in an effort to stifle free speech. We continue to stand by and work with our advertisers through these unfortunate and unnecessary distractions.”

Whether the “guilty liberals” and open borders advocates will ever admit as much, Carlson is right to address the basic economic issues that arise from allowing mass immigration, and he should be able to raise such questions without fearing the PC police.
