AOC has proclaimed the Presidential Medal of Freedom a sacred award that Rush Limbaugh doesn’t deserve.

What is the Presidential Medal of Freedom?

According to Whitehouse.gov:

“Established by President John F. Kennedy in 1963, this prestigious award is the Nation’s highest civilian honor. It is awarded by the President of the United States to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the security or national interests of America, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”

The President of the United States awards this medal to whomever he thinks might merit it.

Medals have been awarded to actors, writers, generals, presidents, scientists, golfers, news anchors, musicians, foreign dignitaries, congresspeople, vice presidents, business people, humanitarians, judges, attorneys, doctors, historians, and many more.

President Obama and the Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Obama is said to have awarded 123 medals during his eight years on office, the most of any president. Here are some of his recipients:

  • 12 sports figures including Ernie Banks, Billie Jean King, Kareem Abdul Jabar, Willie Mays
  • 4 scientists
  • 1 South African religious figure  (Desmond Tutu),
  •  1 vice president: Vice President Joe Biden
  • 2 presidents: President George W. Bush and  President William J. Clinton
  • 12 representatives and senators including John Dingell and Edward Kennedy
  • 16 activists  including Harvey Milk and Gloria Steinem
  • 4 television personalities including Ellen Degeneres, Oprah, and Lorne Michaels
  • 13 musicians including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Barbara Streisand
  • 7 actors including Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, and Robert De Niro

President Trump and the Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Trump has only awarded a few medals to people such as Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Edwin Meese, Tiger Woods, and Roger Staubach. He also awarded medals posthumously to Elvis Presley and Babe Ruth.

Does Rush deserve the Presidential Medal of Freedom?

Of course,  the answer depends on who you ask. Obviously, AOC thinks Rush is a bigot, a fascist, a misogynist and a racist. She says she can’t stomach the idea of Rush being alongside Rosa Parks as a recipient.

Other voices on the left believe the medal should only be awarded to the heroes of the left, and find it “nauseating” to find Rush on the same list as Sister Teresa and Cesar Chavez.

Rush Limbaugh’s 20 million listeners know that none of what AOC says is true about him. In fact, for the many that have been listening to him for decades, these accusations are nothing new, just slander from the left, designed but failing to silence one of the most important conservative voices in America. They have been trying to shut him up for decades, but his listeners keep tuning in for his incisive and valuable commentary.

Rush’s focus has always been presidential politics, and in the late ’80s through the early ’90s, his was one of the only conservative voices to be heard. He provided a lifeline to millions of conservatives during some dark times. He has influenced generations of young Americans and was a bulwark against the left through the sixteen years of Clinton’s and Obama’s tenure.

He was also important through the Bush years as George W. didn’t seem to respond to the attacks from the progressive left after the patriotism caused by 911 slowly disappeared and the disaster of the housing crash hit.

During the 2016 election cycle, although Rush initially endorsed Ted Cruz, he provided important analysis of the process and the candidates on both sides. When Trump won the election, Rush was ready for the attacks on the president. He had been handling such attacks his entire career in radio. He has been invaluable in the day to day trench-fighting that has been the norm during Trump’s presidency. As he likes to point out, his analysis has been 99.8% right and he really has been on the cutting edge of societal revolution.

Rush deserves the Presidential Medal of Freedom

Rush Limbaugh absolutely deserves the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Rush is not perfect but he has been fighting to keep the airwaves free for decades. His show revolutionized American media. He has been pushing back on the progressive hordes that would rob Americans of their freedom to speak, pray, worship, and defend themselves for years.

For that, a grateful nation thanks him.
